It was later that day when a small human girl came in the store holding her mothers hand. I would assume she had just came in to find herself a furry new friend, but Viper saw to it that it never happened. At his command, the other cats extended their claws and hissed angrily at the girl. Our store owner's eyes widened and he stepped forward to scold them, but at his first movement the dogs began to let out a eerie wailing. Thus was the beginning of Vipers rebellion. Or at least, at the time, I thought it was merely a rebellion.

Roadkill9/25/00 I glanced at her, and my eyes filled with tears. She lay there, unbreathing, unmoving. I knelt beside her, looking up and down at her fragile body. Her limp arms, outstretched, as if yawning, maybe batting at a moth, playing. She would never play again.
